Performance/Wellness training is our comprehensive approach to improving an individual’s or a team’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being, often with the goal of optimizing performance in specific areas like work, sports, or daily life. It focuses on enhancing an individual's athletic performance and optimizing their physical capabilities. Unlike traditional physical therapy, which primarily addresses injury recovery and rehabilitation, performance/wellness training aims to improve overall physical function and performance, often with an emphasis on sports and activity-specific goals.

Here are some key aspects of performance/wellness training:

Assessment and Evaluation: Performance/wellness instructors conduct thorough assessments to evaluate an individual's current physical abilities, movement patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. This helps in identifying areas that can be improved to enhance overall performance.

Customized Training Programs: Based on the assessment, instructors develop personalized training programs that include exercises to build strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility tailored to the individual’s specific sport or activity.

Injury Prevention: A significant focus is on preventing injuries by addressing biomechanical imbalances, improving movement efficiency, and teaching proper techniques and strategies.

Rehabilitation: If an injury occurs, performance physical therapists work on rehabilitation with an emphasis on returning to peak performance levels, not just basic recovery.

Performance Enhancement: Beyond injury prevention and recovery, these therapists use techniques and exercises designed to push an individual’s performance to higher levels, such as improving speed, power, and overall functional ability.

Education and Training: They provide education on topics like proper training techniques, nutrition, recovery strategies, and lifestyle adjustments that support peak performance.

Overall, performance/wellness physical therapy blends rehabilitation with advanced training techniques to help individuals excel in their physical pursuits, whether they are athletes or active individuals seeking to maximize their physical potential.

Hello, I’m Dr. Julian Richards, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you. I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012 from the University of Miami, and I’m to proud to say, “Go Canes!” While attending Physical therapy school, I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. Prior to my post-graduate education, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration at the University of Central Florida, and I am equally proud to say, “Go Knights!”

My passion for health, wellness, exercise, fitness, training, and anything that requires movement started at a young age. Watching my father exercise when I was younger inspired me to commit to making my own personal health, wellness, and fitness a priority. Although I competed in several sports throughout my childhood, it wasn’t until I found folkstyle wrestling that I realized the power and effects of disciplined training. I pursued this throughout my high school career, and while I did not pursue wrestling beyond high school, the lessons I learned about discipline, hard work, and perseverance have stayed with me throughout my life.

As a Physical Therapy Doctorate holder, I’m passionate about helping people achieve their health and wellness goals. I believe that movement is medicine, and I’m committed to helping my patients and clients move better, feel better, and live better. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply looking to improve your overall health and fitness, I’m here to help.

In addition to my work as a physical therapist, I’m also a husband and father of three amazing kids. When I’m not working, you can usually find me spending time with my family, working out, playing soccer or enjoying the great outdoors. I’m excited to connect with you and help you achieve your health and wellness goals.
